In Acts 4:32-37, we see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in the church. Believers are united in heart and soul, sharing everything with each other so that no one among them had a need. In vv. 36-37, Joseph is given the name Barnabas, meaning “son of encouragement,” by the apostles, as he gained a reputation for his exorbitant generosity and sacrifice. This radical affection for the needy, the lost, and the suffering reflected the love of the One who first loved him – our savior, Jesus Christ!
