Mission & Strategy

Horizon Church is a community of committed followers of Jesus Christ, whose name reflects our message and our mission.  The horizon is where heaven and earth converge. The ultimate “meeting” of heaven and earth took place on a rugged cross outside of Jerusalem two thousand years ago, where Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of man and eternal Son of God died as a sacrifice for us sinners, in order that we might live. We believe that Jesus is humanity’s only hope in this world and in the next. So it’s our mission “to make, mature, and mobilize committed followers of Jesus.”

“Making” followers simply refers to the role we might play in seeing a person step across that line of faith, recognizing and receiving Jesus as the Son of God and only Savior of sinners. Christ himself initiated the global enterprise of spreading the good news when he said: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:18-19)

“Maturing” followers is all about assisting people as they move forward in the faith.  All who follow Jesus are told to “grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” (2 Peter 3:18). So we want to help people put down deep roots in the soil of God’s Word – the Bible.

“Mobilizing” followers of Jesus means helping believers to go beyond the four walls of the church with the love of Jesus Christ.  Our focus is both local and global - you might say it’s “glocal.”

What is our strategy to accomplish this noble mission of making, maturing, and mobilizing?

It’s a simple three-fold process:
Worship (loving God)
• Walk (loving others)
• WorX (serving the world)

In worship, we enter into a sacred dialogue with the living, triune God – celebrating His greatness and glory, while emphasizing the great good news of Jesus Christ. Our message centers on the amazing grace of God reaching down to the least and the lost in the person of His Son.

The next step for worshippers is to find community in a small group. There we develop our “walk” with others who are following Jesus.  The life of the real Christian is never a solitary existence, because we’ve been created in the image of a God who has existed in eternal community (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).  Likewise, we are designed for connection –  to live in authentic relationship with others.

Because Jesus said that we’re to let our light shine so that others see our good works and glorify God (Matt. 5:16), we seek to make a difference by graciously, lovingly serving those in need. We refer to that effort as “Horizon WorX.”  We don’t want to be content  merely to declare the Gospel, but to demonstrate it through ministries of mercy.  In short, through our WorX, we aim to prove the reality of this powerful Gospel that we proclaim!
