Living Missionally

Live Adventurously. Be prayerful. Be intentional. Be winsome. Be yourself.hand

-Eat with Non-Christians: We all eat three meals a day. Why not make a habit of sharing one of those meals with a non-Christian or with a family of non-Christians? Go to lunch with a co-worker. Invite the neighbors over for family dinner.

-Walk, Don’t Drive: Make a practice of getting out and walking around your neighborhood, apartment complex, or campus. Be deliberate in your walk. Say hello to people you don’t know. Strike up conversations.

-Be a Regular: Instead of hopping all over the city for gas, groceries, haircuts, eating out, and coffee, go to the same places at the same times. Get to know the staff. Smile. Ask questions. Build relationships. Look them in the eye and tell them you appreciate their service. Leave a thank you note to your server (with a generous tip) or call the manager over and share how much you enjoyed the service.

-Hobby with Non-Christians: Pick a hobby that you can share. Get out and do something you enjoy with others.

-Talk to Your Co-workers: How hard is that? Take your breaks with intentionality. Schedule play dates with the neighbors’ kids. Pray specifically for your co-workers and playmates. Leave a note of encouragement on his/her desk or on the windshield of their car.

-Volunteer with Non-Profits: Take a Saturday a month to serve your city. Bring your neighbors, your friends, or your small group.

-Volunteer at Public Schools: Work to make your public schools better – or help start a charter school.

-Participate in City Events: Go to fundraisers, festivals, cleanups, summer shows, and concerts. Participate missionally. Strike up conversation. Study the culture. Reflect on what you see and hear.

-Serve Your Neighbors: Help a neighbor by weeding, mowing, building a cabinet, or fixing a car. Stop by the neighborhood association or apartment office and ask if there is anything you can do to help improve things. Ask your local Police and Fire Stations if there is anything you can do to help them.

-Love those in need around you: Visit someone who can’t get out due to age or illness, bring someone dinner or groceries, give someone a ride to the doctor, walk someone’s dog.

-Get to know people when you’re stuck somewhere: Be friendly and open to conversation.

-Send a care package: To firemen, police, soldiers, teachers, etc.

-Be generous: Pay for somebody’s lunch. At the drive-thru, pay for the meal of the person behind you. Bring Starbucks to your neighbors on Saturday mornings.

-Get to know your neighborhood: Throw a block party. Wash cars. Rake leaves. Cut grass.

-Prickly People: Go out of your way to be nice to them!

-Serve as a family: Take your kids to visit a senior center, tutor someone, volunteer at a local co-op.

-Have a free garage sale or go garage selling and give good finds to local co-ops.
